Air Fryer Chicken Wings are the best and crispiest wings ever! Done in less than 20 minutes, you'll never make wings another way again!
The air fryer is an appliance that basically takes cooking to another level...an easier and faster method for everything. These Air Fryer Chicken Wings not only take a fraction of the time of baking, but get so crispy you'll think they are fried.
Using the air fryer allows them to get super crispy without actually frying them. Once you try this method, you will never cook wings another way. Serve these with Air Fryer French Fries or Instant Pot Corn on the Cob for the perfect meal!
Want to spice it up? Try these Air Fryer BUFFALO wings, Air Fryer Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings, or Air Fryer Asian Chicken Wings! If you prefer no bones, try these Air Fryer Chicken Tenders!
Making wings in the Air Fryer couldn't be easier! Let me explain it...
How to make Air Fryer Chicken Wings:
**scroll down for full ingredients list and printable directions**
- First prep the chicken wings.
- If you have full wings, separate them into drums and flat.
- Make sure they are defrosted.
- Pat them dry completely dry (this will help them get crispy).
- Place the wings into a bowl and add oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss to completely coat the wings.
- Feel free to use your own favorite seasonings, however this is a basic traditional chicken wing seasoning blend (and delicious).
- Preheat the Air Fryer at 400 F degrees for 2 minutes.
- Add the wings in a single layer to the air fryer (they should NOT be touching), and cook for 10 minutes at 400 F degrees.
- After the timer goes off, open and carefully flip over the chicken wings.
- Close the air fryer and cook at 400 degrees F for 8 minutes.
- Remove the chicken wings and serve with your favorite side dishes or dips!
What to serve with Air Fryer Chicken Wings:
- Serve with your favorite dips such as Cilantro Lime Dip, Jalapeno Ranch, The Best Chunky Blue Cheese, or Homemade Buffalo Sauce.
- Serve with a side of corn on the cob - Instant Pot Corn on the Cob or Air Fryer Corn on the Cob is always a hit!
- Use the air fryer to make Frozen French Fries or Tater Tots to serve alongside the wings!
- A hearty scoop of Creamy Mac and Cheese also goes VERY WELL alongside Chicken Wings!
- Or make a Simple Wedge Salad to go with the wings!
- Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries have become one of my favorite side dishes! So much healthier than the fried alternative!
- Serve with just celery and carrots and a side of Blue Cheese Dressing - YUM!
Can I bake Chicken Wings?
Yes, however it takes much longer to get them crispy. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and place the wings on a single layer on a baking sheet (place on an oven rack on top of the baking sheet to get crispier). Bake for 30 minutes, then flip and cook another 15-30 minutes depending on desired crispiness.

These were so good! I'll definitely be making them again!

Never buying precooked frozen wings ever again. Followed recipe to a T, best wings I've ever eaten. Dipped in a ranch dressing, they were so savoury. Thanks for this recipe, it's a keeper.
Allyson
YESSS!!!! So happy to hear you loved them!
Christie L Thurmond
I keep using your cooking method, but my wings keep coming out 165 degrees after only cooking 10 minutes. Great reference though, just wondering if there's a reason..
Allyson
They were probably a lot smaller than typical wings would be my guess. The skin won't get as crispy in that short of time if not flipping them as well. You can try turning the heat down 20 degrees and cooking with the same time I mention in the recipe! Glad you liked them!
Sonny
Yep, same here.
Kathleen
THE BEST! I’ll never make wings any otherway. I did par boil first just cause that’s what I do. These were PERFECTLY done, crispy and seasoning yummy! Thank you!
Allyson
So happy you loved them!
Cathy
First time making wings in my new air fryer. The seasoning was perfect and the wings were delicious! So glad I chose this recipe.

Haleigh Landis
It was soooooooo delicious! Definitely making it again!
Kori
Wow... These wings were amazing!! Thank you so much for this delicious recipe! My husband and son could not get enough of these crispy wings. The only "bad" thing is I had to make them in 3 batches and the waiting was torture... lol ;-D
I followed the directions as is and they turned out exactly as promised.
Thanks again!
Allyson
Sometimes it is a bummer that you can't cook more at once, but if you overcrowd they won't get as crispy so it's definitely worth the wait...and it cooks a lot faster than baking, so there is that, too! I am so glad you liked them! Make sure you try these buffalo wings and asian sticky wings too - sooo good!
Matt
These wings were great! I bought 1.5 lbs figuring I would eat half and bring the other half to work the next day for my lunch, I ate them all in one sitting!!!
Allyson
Next time try 2 pounds 😉 I agree, they are hard to resist!
Lauren
Unfortunately 400° was too hot for my air fryer to work at. That’s the highest setting on mine and the added olive oil (not much) kept causing it to over heat. It shut off 4 different times and had to wait 5 min in between for it to cool off again. Not sure how they taste because they weren’t able to complete 🙁
Allyson
This is definitely a big problem with your air fryer. What type do you have? I would consider returning if it can't heat up to 400 degrees as it should not be overheating. If you want to try again you can reduce the temp to 370 degrees and add 4 minutes.
Jon
So your hardware was malfunctioning and you gave a low review of something you never made successfully / tried? Dimwitted people never cease to amaze me.

I need to know what kind of air fryer you have it's very important I need to know please and thank you.
Allyson
I have several air fryers.... Gourmia 8qt basket style, PowerXL 7qt Basket style, and Ninja double basket 10qt air fryer. Love them all!
Christy
Loved this so good and easy!! I split in 2 batches I added a bit of air fryer seasoning and cayenne to the 2nd batch wow!!
Alina
The best wings I've had! The wings were so moist and delicious! the perfect blend of seasonings that made these the best wings that are healthier than the deep-fried version. The wings were so good that I am making some more tonight for dinner. My picky eaters loved it too! Thank you for this recipe.
Allyson
Thanks for letting me know - makes me so happy! Cheers to wings!
Shayles
Can the seasoned uncooked wings be frozen for another day?
Allyson
Yes, you can definitely do that. They should be frozen within 48 hours of thawing in the fridge. When you then defrost the wings might get watery so you might need to add more seasoning.

👍👍👍 Awesome!!
Robin
These wings were delicious and so easy to make. I will definitely make these again.

I got an air fryer as a Christmas gift and finally used it today. This was the first recipe I tried and it was AMAZING! Super crispy and my kids loved them! Definitely making again!

I want to make these for a Super Bowl party. Taking them about 2 blocks away. Can I keep them warm in a 200 degree oven til people start eating? Also, how many wings do you get with 2 lb? My air fryer has 2 compartments so I can make more at one time.
Allyson
if the wings are separated into drums and flats already, 1 pound will be about 10 drums or flats, so 2lbs will be 20ish. You can keep them warm that way, however they may lose a bit of their crispiness if they are sitting for a while. Everyone will LOVE them!
Desma Hart
These were amazing. We made them tonight and they were a hit with the entire family. They want these on their rotation. Thanks for the awesome recipe!
Allyson
So glad to hear they were a hit! Make sure you checkout the asian wings and lemon pepper wings too - so good!

I made these last night for the Super bowl. I followed the oven method bc I had too many wings to cook and didn't want to do multiple batches in air fryer. These did not disappoint! Wow so crispy, we loved them. I did place the raw wings in a dish towel and covered them with another towel and let them sit on the counter for about 20 minutes to get them dry. I think that made a difference. The only thing I'll do different next time is to add a bit of cayenne. I did cook them for 30 mins flipped and cooked another 25 minutes, came out perfect. Baked on parchment paper.
Allyson
Sometimes the oven is handy if you have a ton of wings to make! I am so glad that you tried them out and enjoyed them! I like a little kick of spice sometimes too! Make sure you try these asian wings as they are equally delicious!
Teresa

These are so well-seasoned, my husband didn't even use buffalo sauce! Although, they work well with that as well. Thank you!

I want to make them, but I don't have olive oil. Can I use vegetable oil or skip the oil all together?
Allyson
You can use vegetable oil or any type of oil really!
Leah
We have made these several times. My husband and son are chicken wing connoisseurs. They think these are the "bomb". They like to add buffalo wing sauce at the end (on their plate). Thanks so much for sharing the recipe!!
Allyson
I am so happy to hear that!! Cheers!
NR
These were great! My husband tried them and went: "WOW! These are so great!!!"
So - definitely keeping the recipe 🙂
Next time I will reduce the salt a bit (might be just my type of salt) but all in all - really great recipe!!
Allyson
I am so happy you loved them! Thank you for coming back to leave a positive comment!

The wings were very good. For the seasoning I used Dash hot and spicy, Dash garlic and herb, paparika, and Dash onion. My Dad has high blood pressure so we have to limit the salt. They still came out very favorable.
Allyson
Sounds like an amazing tweak! Thank you for coming back to leave a positive comment!

I'm with everybody else on here –these are the best wings ever! I had to fudge the recipe a little because I didn't have onion powder, so I used twice as much onion salt (yep, it's a thing) and no actual salt. Perfection! Crispy skin, super flavorful, Mmmmmmm...
Allyson
So glad you hear you loved them!!! Make sure to try these Air Fryer Asian Chicken Wings (crispy & sticky) and these Air Fryer Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings Also!

Can I make these with chicken tenders? Does the cooking temp and time change?
Marv
Hey. I don’t know if this was asked and wanted to try to get a quick reply. What can I substitute for Paprika if I can’t find any in my pantry? I don’t want to change the flavours too much, so any other paprika substitutes would be awesome. Thanks
Allyson
I would just leave it out if you don't have it. However I would recommend purchasing because paprika lasts forever in your pantry and is a recipe staple!
