How to make Cranberry Turkey in the Crock Pot:

- In a bowl mix together the cranberry sauce, orange juice, and onion soup mix. Pour half of that into the crockpot (I like this crock pot with the meat thermometer).
- Add the turkey breast to the crockpot, seasoning the turkey liberally. Pour the remaining cranberry mixture over the turkey.

- Cook on low for 4 to 6 hours. The internal temperature (using a digital thermometer) of the turkey must reach 165° for it to be cooked.
- Optional: the last hour of cooking, add ½ cup of fresh cranberries to the crock pot.
- Remove the turkey and place onto a serving tray, slice if desired.
- To make the gravy:
- For a thicker gravy to pour over the turkey, go ahead and add the remaining liquid from the crockpot to a saucepan and bring it to a boil.
- In a small cup, add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, mixed with 2 tablespoons of water, and then add that to the boiling gravy.
- Bring to a boil while whisking, then reduce and simmer a few minutes.
- Pour the gravy over the top of the sliced turkey.
- Garnish with fresh thyme or rosemary and orange zest.

How to defrost a frozen turkey breast:
Remove the turkey breast from the freeze, and place on a plate or in a bag in the refrigerator. It takes about 24-26 hours to defrost so plan with this time in mind. Do NOT place the turkey on the counter and leave to defrost.

For seasoning the turkey in addition to the onion soup mix, I like to use: 1 teaspoon kosher salt, ½ tsp black pepper, ¼ tsp dried ground sage, 2 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped, 2 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped, 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Mix the seasonings together and then rub over the outside of the turkey before pouring the sauce mixture on top to cook.

I am using a 7lb bone in breast. What would you change to accommodate that? Cook times and ingredients? Any thoughts? Thank you!
Allyson says
Hey Karen, unfortunately I have only tried the recipe as written. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

Is it possible to do this on a stove top in a dutch oven? If I didn't have they Crock-Pot. I've done a pot roast Crock-Pot recipe on the stove top in a dutch oven and that works pretty well. Just curious if anyone has tried this.
Allyson says
I haven't tried it but it is probably possible if you have done other recipes this way! Let me know how it goes!

Can 5his be made in a 6-quart crockpot? Do I need to make adjustments?
Allyson says
It should be fine as long as the turkey breast fits in the pot!
