Being pregnant over the last year had been a real challenge for me; I struggled with major dehydration during pregnancy, and I was in and out of the hospital because of it. I tried my best to stay hydrated, but with working full time, having a toddler and family to take care of, as well as having to do everything else that goes along with being a Mom, it was very difficult to get enough water. Not only that, but constantly being on the go made it a lot easier for me to grab a soda or something I probably shouldn’t have been drinking. After the 3rd time I was in the hospital, I decided I needed to make a real change, and try my best to stay hydrated. I headed to Walmart and picked up some Deer Park water bottles, thinking it would be easier if they were readily available.
I stocked up my fridge with the water bottles so that they would be cold and ready to grab when I was heading out the door.
Having the water right in front of me really helped with keeping it in my mind that I needed to drink drink drink! I learned during pregnancy that staying hydrated is important because it supports the expansion blood volume, renewal of amniotic fluid, kidney and liver function, elimination of wastes, and even for healthy energy levels and helps to avoid fatigue. I always had a bottle in my car for when I was on the go.
I started taking prenatal yoga on the weekend, which seemed really beneficial to helping me relax during pregnancy. With my body changing so much, and stress from life, it was really a great way to decompress and have some ‘me’ time. I was sure to pack a water bottle and small water-centric snack whenever I went to yoga class.
After I delivered my son, Everett, I was told how important it is to continue to stay hydrated after pregnancy.
For mom’s who are breastfeeding, hydration directly effects your milk supply and well being. It is super easy to become dehydrated while breastfeeding, and if that happens, the milk supply can take a big hit. To continue with successful breastfeeding, it’s important to drink a ton of water (drink drink drink!) and stay healthy. Nestle also offers a 5 Gallon Water bottle that would be perfect for post partum. While on Maternity leave a lot of women are home all day with their newborn and having a large 5 gallon water bottle would be very convenient for refilling a water cup all day. Nestles 5 Gallon Water Bottle is made with PET plastic which is BPA free, which a lot of mother’s are concerned about, and the 5 gallon bottles are also better for the environment because the bottle can be returned for refilling and ultimately recycling. It would be so convenient to see Walmart carry the 5 gallon container because then I could do all my shopping in one place!
