This Best Ever Homemade Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing is cool, creamy, tangy, and full of chunky blue cheese crumbles. It's incredibly easy and delicious!
This is seriously the BEST EVER homemade chunky blue cheese dressing. I know, I know; tons of recipes claim to be the ‘best ever’, but believe me when I say…this is THE BEST EVER Chunky Blue Cheese. Blue cheese is just one of those things, you either like it or you hate it. I happen to LOVE it, and will pretty much put it on whatever I can.
There have been many times when I have thought that whatever I am eating is just a vessel for the sauce or dip. This is why blue cheese makes the perfect veggie dip…because all you can taste is the blue cheese. If you are a fan of the cool, creamy, tangy, chunky blue cheese, then you HAVE to try this. Try it with these Instant Pot Chicken Wings, Air Fryer Buffalo Wings, or Simple Wedge Salad!
With the exception of the actual blue cheese, you most likely have everything for this chunky blue cheese dressing in your pantry or fridge, which is another reason I love it so much. When I was making it, I really wanted to use buttermilk, but guess what? I didn’t have any. So what to do? Just make buttermilk yourself – all it takes is some milk and vinegar – easy peasy.
PRO TIPS:
- Make this Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing and let it sit in the fridge AT LEAST four hours. Please, please, please. If you don’t follow this very important tip, this may just turn out not to be the best ever, and I can’t have that. It must be the best ever, so you have to let this bad boy meld it’s flavors in the fridge at least four hours.
- Use real blue cheese and crumble it yourself. You can by chunks of this stuff in the produce/deli/cheese section of your grocery store. If you absolutely can’t find it because you live in the middle of nowhere, then fine, use pre-crumbled blue cheese…it might not be as good, but it will still be delicious.
- Dip these delicious Air Fryer Buffalo Wings into this best ever blue cheese dressing or use it on top of this Buffalo Chicken Salad! Match made in heaven!
- It's NORMAL for the dressing to separate a bit as it sits in the fridge. Just mix again with a fork thoroughly.

That is how blue cheese should be done! Thank you!

Erin
This dressing couldn't look any more perfect!
TamTam
This is my absolute favorite! I substituted Splenda for the sugar and added Worcestershire sauce. So delish!!! Thank you for this!
Amanda Livesay
I can't get enough of this dressing! It really is the best. And so easy!
Sandra

Mark
I tried this recipe and it came out great! My son really loved it, but then again he loves blue cheese!
Allyson
So good on everything! Happy you loved it!

This recipe is the BEST! It's great as is; you can also jazz it up with a dash of hot sauce and Worcestershire, or a pinch of onion powder, depending on your mood. I used red wine vinegar (it's what I had...where did the white wine vinegar go?), and it was still delicious! This is like you are served in the best restaurants!
Heather
Spot. On!!! Delicious - thanks for the amazing recipe! Was amazing with our filet salad .... love!!!

This is the ONLY Blue Cheese dressing recipe for us. Make this every other week.
Pattu
How long does it keep?
Gerald
I am so confused, this recipe was super thin, it says 1/4 cup of mayo. Is this correct?
Allyson
Hi Gerald, yes, the recipe is correct. Did you add the sour cream and blue cheese? It shouldnt be thin. Did you let it set in the fridge for 4 hours? Without being there I can't tell what went wrong, but there are 100's of reviews on this recipe that it turned out so I am guessing another ingredient was missed.

As someone trying to eliminate seed oils i made a variation of you recipe: i used whole milk cottage cheese instead of mayo (because store bought mayo is usually made with soybean oil or canola oil) and replaced the sugar with monk fruit sweetener to replace sugar so its keto friendly! Delicious!
Allyson
Did you use the same measurements for your replacement? I will make note of this in the recipe for other KETO people!
Kristen Stensby
Yes! Same measurements!

I'm not sure if it's because of where I live (East Cost of Canada), but I had never tried blue cheese dressing before, but heard it was popular in the US.
Curiosity piqued, I decided to look up a recipe (yours) and wow.. what a winner!
After I devoured that batch, I tried the only store-made brand I could find here.
Yours was miles ahead of the pre-made stuff and I spread the word (and the dressing itself) as far as wide as I can.
Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Allyson
Love that! So happy you enjoyed my recipe!!
Trish
Yum, and it's not even sat for 4 hours. I didn't deviate much but cut back on the white wine vinegar as I figured I could add more if I want. I had the treasure cave (pre crumbled) brand in the freezer for awhile but it was fine. I do plan to get a wedge so I can add some fresh crumbles. I did add about 1/2 t of fresh lemon zest and more pepper. No salt as the bleu cheese is fairly salty. Bombdiliciousness.
Keeper recipe Allyson. Thank you and pinned.
Allyson
Trish that sounds GREAT! Thanks so much for sharing and I hope you enjoy it!
Chad
Amazing, simply rich and powerful, I used Hellman's Real Mayo I may pull back the amount of mayo next time and use real buttermilk to see how it changed next month.
Allyson
Thanks for your review, Chad!
Kat
Love this recipe...absolutely delicious.
Liz
This is hands down the BEST blue cheese dressing!… we love it chunky so I add a bit more blue cheese. Also, so much better when you use block blue cheese….like suggested.
