This Best Ever Homemade Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing is cool, creamy, tangy, and full of chunky blue cheese crumbles. It's incredibly easy and delicious!

This is seriously the BEST EVER homemade chunky blue cheese dressing. I know, I know; tons of recipes claim to be the ‘best ever’, but believe me when I say…this is THE BEST EVER Chunky Blue Cheese.  Blue cheese is just one of those things, you either like it or you hate it. I happen to LOVE it, and will pretty much put it on whatever I can.

This Best Ever Homemade Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing is cool, creamy, tangy, and full of chunky blue cheese crumbles. It's incredibly easy and delicious!

There have been many times when I have thought that whatever I am eating is just a vessel for the sauce or dip. This is why blue cheese makes the perfect veggie dip…because all you can taste is the blue cheese. If you are a fan of the cool, creamy, tangy, chunky blue cheese, then you HAVE to try this. Try it with these Instant Pot Chicken Wings, Air Fryer Buffalo Wings, or Simple Wedge Salad!

With the exception of the actual blue cheese, you most likely have everything for this chunky blue cheese dressing in your pantry or fridge, which is another reason I love it so much. When I was making it, I really wanted to use buttermilk, but guess what? I didn’t have any. So what to do? Just make buttermilk yourself – all it takes is some milk and vinegar – easy peasy.

This Best Ever Homemade Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing is cool, creamy, tangy, and full of chunky blue cheese crumbles. It's incredibly easy and delicious!

PRO TIPS:

  • Make this Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing and let it sit in the fridge AT LEAST four hours. Please, please, please. If you don’t follow this very important tip, this may just turn out not to be the best ever, and I can’t have that. It must be the best ever, so you have to let this bad boy meld it’s flavors in the fridge at least four hours.
  • Use real blue cheese and crumble it yourself. You can by chunks of this stuff in the produce/deli/cheese section of your grocery store.  If you absolutely can’t find it because you live in the middle of nowhere, then fine, use pre-crumbled blue cheese…it might not be as good, but it will still be delicious.
  • Dip these delicious Air Fryer Buffalo Wings into this best ever blue cheese dressing or use it on top of this Buffalo Chicken Salad! Match made in heaven!
  • It's NORMAL for the dressing to separate a bit as it sits in the fridge. Just mix again with a fork thoroughly.

It should last about 3-4 weeks in the fridge kept sealed. You will have to mix it well every time you eat it. It might thin out a little over time.

Is there anyway to can it so it can sit sealed on a shelf until needed . I have a large bag of blue cheese and don't want to loose it .

Laurie- Unfortunately I don't know anything about canning, so I don't know about that. You can however FREEZE blue cheese: To freeze blue cheese crumbles, tightly seal original packaging and place in freezer; if freezing for longer than 2 months, place package inside a heavy-duty freezer bag in order to prevent freezer burn.

This recipe is bomb!!! Best blue cheese dressing I've ever eaten! I live in the UK and it's really hard to find decent blue cheese dressing here so I started buying Wish-Bone from specialty American importers at inflated prices. Then during lockdown, I couldn't even get that! A friend suggested I try making my own so an internet search brought me here. I used buttermilk and the dressing turned out so good, I couldn't stop eating it! I'll never go back to store-bought. A few friends have asked for the recipe so I've sent them here. Thanks so much for sharing this!

I will make this soon and hope it compares to this restaurant in Charleston South Carolina, name Breck's. You can stand a fork in it and it stays standing and the taste is out of this world. I will get the ingredients tomorrow and let you know.

I made the recipe just like you have and it came out good better than I hoped but not as good as that one from that restaurant in Charleston, I will make again and add more blue cheese and maybe some other ideas I see from other commenters. Thank you I will also be trying other recipes you have.

Condensed milk? That's sweet; are you sure that you don't mean evaporated?

I made it with buttermilk instead of the milk and vinegar mix and substituted ricotta cheese instead of sour cream, also used fresh garlic and mashed it all with a potato masher. It came out really delicious, now I have to wait 4 hours to eat it. Thank you.

I want yo thank you so much for posting this recipe! Since i had the best blue cheese dressing to me in a the old Copal Grill, i had been disappointed with every other. Since the Copal Grill has been gone for years now i almost gave up on finding one that could compete. Until NOW! This turned out very very close. Just a little more “bold” i guess.. so i just backed out some of the Blue Cheese and garlic salt and added a little more butttermilk and sour cream. AND for those that say they got watery or runny dressing. You are not incorporating the blue cheese crumbles into your milk or buttermilk.. the thickness comes from incorporating in some of the Blue Cheese. That thickens it up. You can make it as thick as you want like this.. i just wanted to say thanks to you i will now enjoy blue cheese dressing for the rest of my life. I will eat much more vegetables in my diet because of you, so you will be responsible for making me a healthier person! Thank you SO much!!! I am having so much fun trying to adjust one thing at a time and fine tuning it to MY perfect Blue Cheese Dressing. I encourage each of you to do this as well. This was the BEST Blue Cheese Dressing Ever! Thanks so much!!

I don't often comment on recipes, but this IS fantastic. Because it is what I had in the house, I used lower fat mayo and lower fat sour cream the first time I made it. I had the same "thinning" problems others mentioned, but I also let it sit for several weeks without stirring. I made a second batch last evening, forgetting that it needs to sit for 4 hours. Using it immediately after mixing, it was still excellent. Looking forward to trying it again tonight!
