Coloring Easter Eggs has never been easier! These Easy Dyed Easter Eggs only use two things, shaving cream or cool whip & food coloring!
Now that Easter is only a few days away, I wanted to share my favorite way to dye eggs! These Easy Dyed Easter Eggs are seriously so simple, and the kids will love helping and seeing the vibrant colors (that's my favorite part too)!
You can even eat these after dying them if you use the cool whip method. I love using the eggs in this Best Ever Egg Salad or Avocado (no mayo) Egg Salad! So yum!
How pretty are these Easy Dyed Easter Eggs?!?! All you need is gel food coloring and shaving cream OR cool whip.
***If you are planning to eat these hard boiled eggs, I recommend using cool whip instead of shaving cream. You want to make sure that you aren't accidentally consuming the chemicals from the shaving cream.***
How to make Easy Dyed Easter Eggs:
I highly recommend using the Instant Pot to make Hard Boiled Eggs. Makes life so much easier! You can also use the AIR FRYER HARD BOILED EGGS method, which is super easy too!
- First off, if you use a muffin tin, it makes this REALLY easy! Load up each hole with shaving cream or cool whip. Add a few drops of gel food coloring (I like this one) to each hole.
- I did 2 colors in each one.
- Then, using a toothpick, lightly swirl the color around. You don't want to mix it up too much otherwise you won't have a big color contrast on your eggs!
- Next up, place the hard boiled eggs into each hole and lightly press down!
- Leave the eggs here for about 10 minutes and then flip them over!
- Leave the eggs for 10 more minutes on the opposite side.
- Remove the eggs from the tins, then lightly rinse them off. Set them on a paper towel or kitchen towel to dry.

You may want to wear rubber gloves and avoid having to wash your hands all together once you have completed the dying project.
Allyson
You could do that, but I love washing with LAVA soap 🙂

Can you eat these eggs after dying with shaving cream?
Allyson
You can. Alternatively you can use cool whip and it has the same effect if you are concerned!
Alice
Should you soak the eggs in vinegar first?
Allyson
I've never tried that...
maria
Can you reuse the dye after each egg, or do you need to reapply the cream and gel for each egg?
Allyson
I think you should be able to reuse it. I haven't tried it, but seems there is still a lot of dye left. Maybe test with a few and see!
Amber
Can you use the fake eggs
Allyson
You mean plastic eggs? I haven't tried that...
Latonya Hernandez
I am going to try this for this Easter egg hunt I am attending. My son and I will have so much fun creating these together. Thank you!
Mandy
I would recommend only doing pink, blue and purple. The yellow red orange and green didn’t dye my eggs. I even left in for longer amount of time.
Laleh
Great idea thanks. How long does the color stay ?
Beth
Does the coloring rub off after they are dry? I’ve always wondered whenever I’ve seen this process.
Allyson
Nope!
Laura
Any idea if you know if you can use traditional dye instead of gel? I realize they might not be quite as brilliant, but I'm wondering if it would work? Thanks!
Allyson
Laura- this will work, but you are correct, the colors won't be as vibrant- still cool and fun!
Alicia
I have done this exact method the last 3 years and am FINALLY leaving a comment! I have done it with BOTH cool whip and shaving cream and it comes out well both ways. My kid love doing this and look forward to it every year. Thank you for sharing this and making our Easter special!
April
These are so fun! My kids love decorating their eggs this way.
